Originally, kimono was the Japanese word for clothing. But in more recent years, the word has been used to refer specifically to traditional Japanese clothing. Kimonos as we know them today came into being during the Heian period (794-1192). Striking motifs and patterns were block printed on different textiles. Style, motif, fabric, technique and color explained who you were. For example, a cherry blossom was not just a pretty design; rather, it symbolized mortal feminine beauty.
Early 2019, inspired by antique kimonos, SoFarSoNear has re-designed a traditional pattern where cherry blossoms and flowers gave birth to some extraordinary garments, designed by Soledad Twombly.
